Academic and Life Skills Support for Teens and Young Adults in Recovery or Managing Mental Health in Los Angeles, New York, and Europe

Supporting Back-to-School High School and College Student Success:

At Connections in Recovery (CiR), we understand that high school and college can be some of the most exciting, and challenging, times in a young person’s life. CiR helps students build the skills, confidence, and structure they need to succeed: academically, socially, and personally.

Our case managers, coaches, and companions work one-on-one with teens and young adults to:

  • Strengthen academic performance and executive functioning
  • Build life skills like budgeting, organization, and self-care
  • Provide substance use support, sober companionship, and drug testing
  • Offer safe transport and relocation help
  • Guide students through new social environments and transitions

With teams in Los Angeles, New York, Paris and London, CiR can assist with a multitude of services to make it seamless for the individual and their loved ones.

We offer a wide range of academic and life skills support designed to help students reach their full potential. Academic assistance includes planning and organization, help with study abroad, and referrals to trusted therapists, psychiatrists, and educational testing providers. We also offer specialized college application coaching and shadowing to and from school, ensuring students are supported both inside and outside the classroom.

Developing strong executive functioning skills is a cornerstone of our approach. Our team guides students in time management, organization, self-care, personal hygiene, healthy eating, budgeting, and building vocational skills such as resume development and interviewing. We also connect students to volunteering opportunities and internships that align with their interests and career goals. These real-world experiences strengthen independence while reinforcing responsibility.

CiR also supports healthy daily living, from scheduling and attending medical and therapeutic appointments to encouraging balanced nutrition, exercise, and social engagement. Our case managers provide structure for students struggling with substance misuse, offering sober support, drug testing, and relapse prevention strategiesSocial skills coaching, healthy device management, and guidance on gender/sexual identity concerns are integrated into our services, addressing both emotional well-being and interpersonal confidence.

For students relocating or transitioning to a new academic environment nationally or abroad, CiR offers relocation support to ensure a smooth adjustment. We provide safe transport to treatment or appointments and can arrange professional companion support to help students settle into their new surroundings. Crisis support, wellness checks, and comprehensive treatment guidance—including facility recommendations and enrollment assistance—are also available.

Parents benefit from peace of mind knowing their child has a dedicated mentor offering consistent guidance and accountability. Our parent coaching services keep families informed and engaged in a supportive, constructive way, strengthening communication and fostering mutual trust. This collaborative approach ensures that students remain on track academically, emotionally, and socially.

From developing a weekly study schedule to learning how to grocery shop on a budget, our support is both practical and empowering. By building routines and reinforcing positive habits, CiR helps students navigate academic demands while staying committed to their recovery and overall well-being.
